this must be the place...

well, i ran this evening for the first time since the 5k. no bad. there's another 5k coming up in november that i'm considering now, we'll see. it might help if i had a competitive spirit and wanted to push myself, but i don't....i'd be happy doing what i'm doing a couple times a week from now until whenever.

anyway, all is well. fam is good, friends are good, new hamster is good.

sooooo boring.

orchard days

We had a really fun day yesterday. Julie spent Friday night with us as my parents met up with Jacob in Chicago to celebrate his 24th birthday. The kids were so excited to have Aunt Julie over and Saturday we had yet to make plans when a friend called and asked if we wanted to go to a petting zoo at a Savoy pet store. So I took off and headed in what I figured was the general direction of this place and suddenly we find outselves in the middle of a parking lot carnival! Turns out it was Savoy Orchard Days and there were real carnival booths and rides-right in the middle of a giant parking lot! We had a blast, eating jumbo corndogs, drinking lemon shake-ups, the kids rode the ferris wheel and tried to win a stuffed animal at a ring toss booth. We also made it to the petting zoo and we fed goats and Kieran got to ride a little pony. It was a really great day.

our new addition...

As of last night, we are now the proud owners of a pet hamster.

We're been thinking that it would be nice to get a pet of some kind, and since Aaron's allergic to dogs and cats, we were focusing on something small, something fish/hermit crab/turtle/hamster-ish. Kieran has a pet hamster named Sylvia at school and we figured that if a hapster could survive the gawking and handling of a dozen pre-schoolers, heck, one hapster vs. out two kids should be just fine!

Kieran initially wanted to name his new pet Sylvia, but we gently suggested a more masculine name, as it's a male hamster. We briefly considered Stuart, as we had just watched Stuart Little. However, upon trying it with our last name Aaron decided it was a bit difficult to say (as if the thing would be introducing himself at parties or checked off a class roster someday).

Kieran decided to name the hamster Egon, as in the Ghostbuser (as in his favorite movie). We find ourselves calling him "Little Egon" and Kieran frequently checks on him and asks to remove him from his cage. It's been less than 24 hours since we purchased the thing and I think he's been stared at more than when he was at Petsmart!

Andie too seems excited, she's constantly pulling up a chair and saying, "Hi kitty!"
